Hyde Park
A Breath of Fresh Air at the Centre of the CBD
In a city as energetic as Sydney, Hyde Park offers something quietly valuable – space, greenery and the particular calm that comes from being surrounded by trees in the middle of one of the world’s great urban centres.
Established in 1810 and spanning over 16 hectares across two sections divided by Park Street, Hyde Park is Sydney’s oldest public parkland and one of its most beloved. The Archibald Fountain at its northern end is one of the city’s most photographed landmarks. The ANZAC Memorial at its southern end is one of its most significant. Between them, the avenue of fig trees, manicured lawns and shaded paths make it a place that rewards both a purposeful visit and an unplanned detour.
The park sits at the eastern edge of the CBD, bordered by some of Sydney’s most significant addresses, St Mary’s Cathedral, the Australian Museum, the Hyde Park Barracks and the legal and government precinct of Macquarie Street. A morning in Hyde Park followed by an afternoon exploring the surrounding cultural institutions makes for a Sydney day with considerable depth.
From the hotel, Mascot Station is a five minute walk and Central Station is just two stops away placing Hyde Park well within reach for a morning run, a lunchtime escape or an afternoon visit on the way to or from the city.
